Becoming a Catholic School Trustee

Living Waters School Trustee Election October 20, 2025

The next School Trustee election will be held on October 20, 2025. The Living Waters Catholic
School Division Board of Trustees is made up of 6 Trustees, with two from each ward. Ward 1
represents Edson and surrounding area, Ward 2 represents the Town of Slave Lake and
surrounding area, and Ward 3 represents the Town of Whitecourt and surrounding area.
 
Candidate Eligibility
You are eligible to run for Catholic School Board Trustee if, on nomination day, you are:
  • Eligible to vote in that election.
  • Have been a resident of the local jurisdiction (Catholic) and the ward (1, 2, or 3) for the 6 consecutive months immediately preceding nomination day.
    • Faith Based – an individual residing in the boundaries of the established area is considered a separate school elector if they declare they are of the same faith as those who established the separate district
  • You have provided with your nomination package a criminal record check conducted by a police service in Alberta, including both local and national records of charges and convictions, issued no earlier than 30 calendar days prior to the date the nomination is submitted
  • Not otherwise ineligible or disqualified under the Local Authorities Act as follows:
    • An auditor of the local jurisdiction
    • An employee of the local jurisdiction
    • A person indebted to the municipality of which the person is an elector for taxes (non-current) in default exceeding $50
    • A person is indebted to the local jurisdiction for which the election is to be held for any debt equal or greater than $500 and in default more than 90 days,
    • A person has, within the previous 10 years, been convicted of an offence under the Local Authorities Election Act, the Election Act, the Election Finances and Contributions Disclosure Act, or the Canada Elections Act.
    • If, on nomination day, a person is employed by a School Division, a Charter School, or a Private School
 
Candidate Nomination – Starting January 2025
Nominations will be accepted until 12 noon on Monday September 22, 2025. Nominations will be accepted at the following locations.

Ward 1 – Edson – Holy Redeemer Catholic School , 4912 – 12 th Avenue, Edson
Ward 2 – Slave Lake – St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School, 1700 Main Street, Slave Lake
Ward 3 – Whitecourt – 4204 Kepler Street, Whitecourt

The following items are ALL REQUIRED for your nomination to be complete:
Form 4: Candidates Nomination Information and Candidate’s Acceptance 
Form 5: Candidate Disclosure Statement and Financial Information
Form 26: Notice of Intent - Edson, Slave Lake, and Whitecourt
 
Please note that no digital signatures are accepted, they must be hand signatures.
 
Candidate Financial Disclosure Statements
Candidates must follow the election finance rules set out in Part 5.1 of the Local Authorities Election Act and the Expense Limits Regulation.
Candidates are required to file a disclosure statement with Living Waters Catholic School Division, on or before March 1 of each year, if contributions were received in the previous year.

If contributions are collected and/or expenses incurred in 2024, a disclosure statement must be filed on or before March 1, 2025.

For contributions collected and expenses incurred in 2025, a disclosure statement must be filed on or before March 1, 2026.

Make sure to keep good records of your contributions and expenses. This will be important for completing your disclosure statement(s).
 
Political participants should refer to the Local Authorities Election Act and the Education Act and associated regulations and obtain legal advice regarding the full extent of their obligations.
