Catholic Students Achieve Great Test Results
16 Dec
Students at Catholic schools in Whitecourt did well on the Provincial Achievement Test and Diploma exam.
"Our students have done really well and continue the upward trend" superintendent Carol Leman, of the Living Waters Catholic School Division, said.
Both St. Mary and St. Joseph Schools completed the achievement tests this fall with students, for the most part, scoring higher than provincial averages.
"Our teachers have focused on success and achievement," Lemay said, adding the Alberta Initiative for School Improvement (AISI) has helped educators improve student learning. "The thing about AISI, it has to be used in the appropriate place at the appropriate time."
An example would be group work where students interact with one another.
According to a press released issued by the Catholic school division, students either outscored or equalled their provincial counterparts in six of eight provincial achievement tests written in June 2009.
